EUROlinkCAT Results Explorer: Interactive tool for visualising the percentage of children born with congenital anomalies admitted to hospital up to 10 years of age

This interactive percentage of children admitted to hospital plots tool is designed to allow you to visualise and compare the percentage of children admitted to hospital between different anomaly groups. In addition you can look at different multiple malformation status and also compare against the reference children group (children without congenital anomalies). Data is grouped by <1 year, 1-4 years and 5-9 years. Each length of stay plot is displayed in separate colours with details in the legend.

Congenital Anomaly Options

There are three tabs:

  • Common Anomalies – This lists 38 different anomalies: 34 are from those anomaly groups specified in the EUROCAT Guide 1.4 which are amongst the most frequent congenital anomalies and an additional 4 are for Down syndrome with and without CHD or gastrointestinal anomalies
  • Rare anomalies and Genetic Syndromes – This lists 47 different anomalies: 26 are from those anomaly groups specified in the EUROCAT Guide 1.4 that are less frequent than those in the “Common Anomalies” table and an additional 21 are for specific congenital anomalies / syndromes currently not defined as sub groups in EUROCAT Guide 1.4.
  • Custom Selection – This lists all 85 different anomalies and enables more choices in which anomalies can be selected and plotted at the same time. For example this enables the same anomaly to be plotted over two different time periods.

Birth cohort options

All selections are for 1995-2014 – Births in 1995-2014

    Multiple Malformation options

There are separate selections available for:

    • Isolated - Births with an isolated anomaly only (the default option)
    • Mult incl - Births with an isolated anomaly and births with two or more major anomalies of different organ systems, including sequences, chromosomal and monogenic syndromes

     Multiple birth options

All selections are for singleton and multiple births combined

      Display Options

      • Include 95% CI – shows the 95% confidence interval as dashed lines
      • Degree of heterogeneity (I2)  – If this is selected then I2 values for each age group are added to the legend. Data points are annotated with a bullet point for moderate values between 50 and 75% and diamonds for I2 greater than 75%. The I2 value indicates the percentage of variance in a meta-analysis that is attributable to study heterogeneity.

      Additional Information

      • Show Registry and Population details - For each anomaly selected, the registries that have provided data on the length of stay in hospital with that anomaly, are listed together with the total number of observations from all registries contributing to the pooled estimate.
